Sometime during New Year’s celebrations at the end of last year I dropped my Panasonic Lumix, ending the life of a trusted companion. I shed a few tears that night, but when I got home the next day I immediately set out to find a suitable replacement. Also a Panasonic, the DMC-LX3 is more than just a point-and-shoot, it’s a powerhouse marvel that has gotten this amateur photographer inspired once again to take a lot of pictures. In the short month I’ve had this baby I’ve taken more than 1,300. Below is a small sampling.

The blacks look really black, and the contrast is astounding. The new CCD is awesome. Go Panasonic!

Fun scene modes make experimenting fun. Above are photos taken in ‘Pinhole’ mode.

The main reason I got this baby, aside from its wide-angle lens, is the hot shoe atop the camera. This is what made me drool, the ability to attach an external flash onto a compact camera and create directional lighting shots.

Any other point-and-shoot would only be able to get 50% of this frame, if taken from the exact same distance from the subjects.
